Mrs. Collins is also the Destination Imagination coordinator for the district and is a leader in developing priority standards. According to DMS Principal Ryan Mackey, Chris is able to create engaging lessons and activities that truly influence the achievement of her students. Chris worksChris Collins diligently on ensuring her students present growth and learn their standards at a high level. Moreover, Chris brings a positive attitude and outlook to her profession each day. She is a dedicated employee who truly cares about each and every one of the students and the staff members at DMS. Chris has recently become a National Board Certified Teacher and was awarded this prestigious certification on February 16 in Cheyenne. Thank you to Mrs. Collins...you truly make a difference!

The art display was provided by Douglas High School students. The display was a sampling of the various mediums used by DHS students.  The back wall was decorated with examples of photography done by students this year.  There were also black and white drawings in pen and ink done from a still life they set up in the classroom.  The painting students used watercolor, acrylic and pastels to accomplish the artwork that was displayed along the side wall and the table in the center of the room showed a few examples from the glass fusing and slumping class.

In their regular board meeting, the school board approved an early resignation incentive. The incentive offers 1.5% of a staff member's base salary if he or she resigns early, providing an opportunity for the district to recruit the best staff members to fill the position. A one-time incentive of $5000 was offered for classified employees who have worked for the district for at least seven years and are eligible for full retirement. For certified staff members, a one-time incentive of 63% of their base salary is being offered if they have worked for the district for seven years and are eligible for full retirement.

A resource allocation plan to guide the process of building a mission-driven budget was adopted after several months of work by the board. It helps administrators determine budget priorities. 

Policy committee chair Kim Hiser reviewed a slate of personnel policies on first reading.  The rural school calendar was presented and approved as was a lease for the Bridge House.

The board also approved the calls for bids on a district phone system, door access controllers, student computers, and SmartBoard replacement devices. Those bids will be opened on March 22.

Administrator contracts were approved as presented as were all personnel recommendations.

In the rec board meeting, the board heard a proposal from Recreation Director Monty Gilbreath about realigning the DYRC and a possible MOU with the city regarding the city waterpark. The board also approved the design proposal for the upgrades to Nida Field.
